I'd say let him just leave the car in Tour and let him get a feel for it. Then after a couple of sessions or laps change it to Sport.
No matter what mode you're in or off you're in Sport Comp or PTM. I mean, I haven't ever tried wet mode but maybe it'll be less aggressive for keeping the revs up?
