Yes, essentially this. What we have discovered is it cracks at the pivot point first, and then either the vane snags into the crack, or the point that is 180 degrees out from the first crack also splits (2 separate pieces for that slider).
If you catch it early enough (the 10-20psi drop stage), there will be nearly no damage to your engine in most cases. We have a 2021 come into the shop with a broken oil pump, he bought the car new, had an oil pressure drop, and had it immediately towed to us. We tore into the shortblock to check it out, and all bearings were in phenomenal shape. We could have put it together as-is, but the customer opted for Clevite bearings, ARP mains, ARP rod bolts, and ARP side bolts.
For anyone that is concerned with a factory oil pump failure, drive your car as you would normally, and just watch after your oil pressure. If you see any unusual large drops that stay low, i would park the car until you choose a direction for repair
