I have a coworker who autocrosses regularly with a 86. He keeps asking if I wanna tag along for a meet with the Z, so maybe that'll change.

I hear you. I'm lucky in that my toy cars are just that. So I drive them pretty hard. I've autocrossed my Nissan Z for many years. I even have a separate set of forged Nismo wheels I use when I'm on the autocross course. You should definitely try an autocross event. They are lots of fun and very safe versus going to a race track. And you can really learn how to explore the limits of your car in a safe environment. I bet your friend would let you ride along with him the first time so you can see what its like.
I haven't yet taken the 1LE to an autocross event. I'm still breaking it in. I'm almost at 1,400 miles. Once I hit 1,500 I'm going to change the oil again (first change at 500), One thing I like about the 1LE is that it comes with forged wheels, so no need to upgrade them. And I like the way they look too. And the 1LE is already such a competent car, so I don't plan to do much modding to it.
My Z on the other hand is highly modified and really a hoot on an autocross course. It's small and very nimble too.
