Early ‘90s. I was managing our service parts and remanufacturing activity. We also often sent service engineers to dealerships to assist with root cause analysis of repeated failures. The service engineers are the guys that wrote the engine and transmission service procedures and manuals and helped design the special tools. We had one service engineer who can be <nice filter on> prickly </nice filter>. He’s at a dealer “helping” a dealer tech diagnose a repeated transmission failure and is painstakingly explaining to the tech why flushing the entire cooling system is important to prevent sediment from traveling into the valve body. Most common cause of repeat transmission failure.
A truckload of new vehicles was being delivered and the tech took this as his escape from the service engineer’s ass-hattery. Tech jumps into a C1500 while the service engineer is still lecturing him, angrily throws the C1500 into reverse and backs it off the car carrier. Right into a Calloway Corvette that had just been prepped for delivery to the customer, who was already en route.
I got a really nasty call from the dealership owner.
