If anything, it probably cost more to have stamped steel fabricated instead of a solid piece. GM strategically dialed in more compliance to allow better traction for an already uber stiff chassis.

Those thin metal parts are probably more expensive than the beefier parts you are used to. The team's goals for developing the suspension were (in order)
- Beat BMW 3-Series for chassis stiffness
- Minimize mass
- Cost optimization
To support the chassis stiffness goals while minimizing mass the team had to use a lot of aluminum and high cost lightweight high strength steel.
