Hello all. I've seen several threads pertaining to a zeroed out or "cold" temperature gauge and that usually being a faulty coolant temp sensor, but what about a gauge that only seems to be flopping back and forth?

Mine will sit around the standard 200-210 degrees, raise up, and then fall back down. It'll do that several times before rising up to the 260 range and the car alert going off. Typically, I've shut the car off either right as this happens or before. When I turn it back on, it'll sit at the normal mark again and repeat the process.

Could this also be a simple switch of the sensor? Or is this more indicative of the thermostat malfunctioning?
