OP: been there done that, locked myself out, mechanical reentry, powered the under-hood posts to pop the trunk from the door button. Won't do that again, maybe.

This is normal after a battery disconnect. If you try and start the car from dead/disconnect it will wake up but fail to crank.
You have to wake the car up first, either by
- doing as you did by trying to start it, or
- with foot OFF the brake, holding the start button for 5 seconds to wake the car up into key-on maintenance mode where CEL stays lit (w/o codes), then goes out after you then start the car normally from this state.
Maybe it's a convertible software thing, but I have found the modules to be a bit more stable using the latter approach and not throw random false-positive codes.
