A transponder emits a UNIQUE radio signal that is picked up be receivers that are placed strategically around a course. They are simply a way to very accurately measure elapsed time for a lap.

Some tracks like EAGLES CANYON having a timing loop that is on at ALL TIMES so even in HPDE events it can keep track of your lap times.

There is NO VIDEO captured, it is just elapsed times that are typically accessed by the racers thru an iphone app like MYLAPS Speedhive.
