I've stopped cold turkey before for a period of about 2 years. well, I take that back, I would have one or two occasionally (about once every 2-3 months depending on where I was at the time).
Chantix is some strong stuff. it will help you quit, but you'll be having dreams worse than a Stephen King novel.
the suicide part of it was why I never used it regularly. my mothers side of the family has a history of depression and other mental issues. so far, ive been able to deal with them without the help/need for drugs of any kind.... (well, there was that one I used for too long before I joined the military, but thats another story). my sister is bipolar, my mother is bipolar and manic-depressive, my brother is MD as well. I have never been "technically" diagnosed with it, but I know I have it as well, I just learned how to deal with my mental and physical demons.
mind over matter. same with smoking. its all in the willpower.
you dont NEED the cigarette. easiest way I found to stop was to quit buying them in the first place. if I dont have them around, I wont smoke them.
