Going to look at a 2018 M4 competition and a 2021 M2 competition this weekend, although I can’t quite make my peace paying 15k more for a car that could get smoked by a 1LE on track - they are both available with multiple choices on the used market now and it’s primarily road use.
Opinions please gents

I feel your pain too. I got tired of waiting and was able to locate the same vehicle I ordered in transit to another dealer. The person who originally ordered the car got tired of waiting and went another direction, but didn't cancel the order.
Like some others have stated, I like the M2, but not the M4 so much. The issue I have with them is the cost. The 1LE is a better bang for the buck. I owned a BMW 135i for about 10 years. It had a Dinan Stage 2 tune and a host of M3 (E92) suspension upgrades. One reason I kept it so long was because I really like the way it drove, but another reason was trying to find something newer just cost so much. I really like the M2, but I just couldn't justify paying $60k plus for one. I'd also been looking at the 1LE for several years and finally decided to pull the trigger on one. I also sold the 135i when I got the 1LE.
I think you are going to enjoy the 1LE when you finally get yours. You would probably enjoy an M2 as well, but it's going to cost you more in the long run.
