The way these go in, if I remember correctly, is that there is a "generic" hole drilled through the component "inside". A speed clip is snapped over that hole to provide a threaded receiver for the screw to go into. Those clips can and do fall off if there is no screw in them, but otherwise should remain in place.
Speed clips are sort of rough gauge in terms of threads and will give and flex a little to accommodate thread pitches that are not perfect matches.

I know it's an old thread, but I suppose this is the right place to ask. Ember, as you said those screws go into a metal speed clip (or speed fastener). Do you or someone else know the part number of those clips? Or maybe something similar that I can buy on eBay that should do the job as well?
