I think that there are a lot of factors, and of course every maker is different. When I went in last summer with my 2020 Nissan Titan to look at a 2021, the dealership was more than happy to give me cash back on the 2021 that had more features than my 2020. I suspect that the dealership figured that they could leverage more money out of a 1 year old vehicle than they could out of a brand new vehicle that had the MSRP sticker on it. There's definitely a lot more gray area in the used car market. Thus, I tell everyone that has a 1-2 year old vehicle to see if it makes sense for them to get into something new. Dealer profit margins on used vehicles can really climb, especially considering that they don't have to worry about the parent company coming down on them for perceived "price gouging".

If you sort this list by lowest price, and go through the few outliers that are titled as "salvage", the prices seem kind of high. https://www.cars.com/shopping/result...2020&zip=75060
