Technically, the car doesn't call for these fluid changes at that mileage but a lot of folks here do it anyway. The 500 mile oil change came about as a result of the oil foaming issue in the dry sump LT1 engines in the C7 corvettes. The Camaro LT1/LT4 has a wet sump and doesn't have this oil foaming concern.
The diff oil looks all nasty because the gears have some factory coating that starts mixing with the oil as it wears. I haven't heard of any premature failures but if some like to get that crap out of the diff and change the fluid.
That said, I bought some Race Ramps and did the fluid changes myself for the enjoyment of working on the car myself.
