If this is your "fiscal side" coming out, then make sure you do ALL the math...
How much would it cost you to:
- Add on to your garage for sheltered storage? There's the actual cost of construction, but don't forget to add in any interest or similar that you may "lose" by taking money out of the bank or interest you'll pay if you finance the build.
- Add on to your garage for semi-sheltered storage (lean-to)? Same as above.
- Give up the storage unit and leave a vehicle outside year-round? Exposing a vehicle to the elements year-round could cause accelerated wear on the paint or other components and devalue the vehicle as a result. May be harder to calculate, but worth trying...
Compare all of those against a $1200/year rent for a 'garage'.
