Hey, OP. You have done all the initial stuff I would suggest when asking about pads and shims.
I would switch to a different pad before using the shims.
The Ti shims work. They will keep you from brake fade due to fluid failure, but make sure the fade you are feeling is fluid and not pad.
The shims aren't magic. The heat generated by the brakes is still there, but it's reflected back to the pad/rotor instead of into the pistons/fluid.
I found when I added shims, I started having pad fade which necessitated a move to a more racing oriented pad.
When I made the changes one at a time (and used a heat gun between sessions), I saw that perhaps all I needed to change was fluid. So I moved from Motul600 to SRF. Fade problem went away and I didn't need to use the shim.

PS - it was mentioned above, but the metal plate on the back of the OEM pad is a backing plate, not a shim. It's to reduce rattle/noise.
