In the US Sweden is held up as a sort of socialist light utopia. Because of government health care. They do not tell the facts as you describe with 50% taxation over $60,000...
They make it sound as though its just "Medicare for all"....
In fact we are probably going to get yelled at for speaking about such things here.
So much for freedom of speech too.
Where I live in NJ the average personal income is 90,000.
But thats padded by some truly high earners.
I can tell you as a skilled blue collar "essential" worker I dont make 90. The wife does. But combined approaching 180 does not buy a whole lot. We live in a 1600 Sq town house. Pay over $6,000 in taxes and fees.
2 more years or so before we "piss off" to Tennessee... or perhaps S.C......
That is if "they" dont crash everything giving us all the free stuff...

I've recently made the move and things appear to be much better here in TN. Very decent people for the most part, common sense is alive and kicking, traditional values respected. Oh and I'm paying 15x (yes, fifteen times) less property tax for a house similar to what we had in NJ, plus a nice piece of land. Heck, your $6k a year would've been a dream for me even up in Morris County. Come down south and join us, brother.

Your tax structure must have astronomical margins and/or heavily punish high earners. Such a system can only survive if freeloaders are penalized instead, hard, which isn't gonna happen because of PC, so, while I'm not well versed in EU affairs anymore, I'm pretty sure even without knowling the details it's being stretched to its limits and eroded.
Last time I went to Sweden was about two decades ago, and it looked and felt pretty good, by the way. Not sure about the present.
