My 2018 manual clearly says that 5W-30 dexos1 is the recommended oil. Also, the oil fill cap says the same thing. Then there is a caveat in the manual for track use, where they recommend the 0W-40 or 5W-40 dexos2.
The 2020 manual clearly states that 0W-40 dexos2 is the recommended oil. Period. The manual does add a caveat saying "If 0W-40 dexos2 oil is not available, SAE 5W-30 dexos1 full synthetic engine oil may be used for street use." So 5W-30 dexos1 is an official alternative, but not the recommended oil. |
Agree! But what has changed is the sequence of the caveats, as GM has changed factory fill. Also, 0/5w40 is a better oil vs 5w30 and dealerships carry it now. So, strictly imo, if somebody does not track their car, proper 5w30 is fine and allowed as an alternative. Moreover, GM never issued any bulletins on this subject, nor informed owners of prior MY cars of this change. And nobody is *obliged* to keep checking latest manuals
