Gerting READY for another TRACK DAY
Well guys, I have a 2019 SS with SG3 suspension and 1LE sway bars, ZL1 brakes front and rear, APEX 19 x 10.5 wheels wrapped with 305 30 19 MS 4S tires on all four corners, and VORSHLAG camber plates.
I have run over the last year about 15 track events and I am getting ready for another THIS saturday at Motorsports Ranch in CRESSON Texas. I HAD been running all this time the STOCK brake pads all the way around and I was pleased with the fact that they held up this well. To be sure the FRONT pads were toast and so were the rotors after these track days and about 15K miles of daily driving. The REAR brake pads still had a little wear left in them but I decided to swap them out as well.
I was able to have the front rotors turned (barely) and the rear rotors as well. I went with HAWK PERFORMANCE STREET 5.0 PADS on all four corners. I NEVER experienced any brake fad whatsoever with the STOCK pads but I felt like I needed a softer pad to provide a little more initial bite and I wanted a quicker release when coming off the brakes. So far as as STREET driving goes, this is exactly what I got so I expect that same behavoir at the track.
I was using the stock brake fluid and i never had any issues with that either but I decided to flush the system out and use for WILWOOD 600 PLUS brake fluid. Supposedly that fluid has a boilover rate at TWICE the DOT4 specs. Occasionally I could smell my brakes after a hard track session so obviously they were getting hot (but still no fade). I got THREE bottles of the brake fluid because I knew some would get flushed out when we were bleeding the brakes. You would only need 2 bottles if you were not flushing out the old fluid. The fluid is priced pretty decently at about 23.00 a bottle. I have some pics attached.
