I think we may be misunderstanding each other. I don't see why I need autocross or 1/4 mile tracks to determine my vehicles speed, I have a speedometer for that. I also don't really get why I should care what these cars are doing on a track given I have no plans to put my car on a track.
I care how my car performs in the environment I drive it in, the street. I would like my car to be faster than other cars in that environment, and with respect to the 392, in my experience on the street, the Camaro SS is faster.
Perhaps on a track, the 392 would come out ahead. I don't think it would, but it might. For those who track their cars, that matters. For those who don't, it's meaningless.
If you track your Camaro, then track performance is the metric that matters to you.
I really don't care one way or the other about track performance. The guy in the 392 who gets roasted on the street is free to talk about how hypothetically, on a track, with different tires and a perfect environment he 'would have' been faster.
