We have a few acres in NC, that's likely where we'll retire when the time comes.

Your misconception is people envy your state, but you couldn’t pay me to live in California. I say this as someone living in the Midwest equivalent of California; Illinois, except minus the weather and beaches.

My business is here, so I stay, but if (when) I move somewhere warmer, it would be Texas, Tennessee, or North Carolina (Love the Outer Banks). If I wanted more of the same but more land, I’d move to the Black Hills of South Dakota or Northern Michigan. I’d say California is #50 on my list of states I’d ever live in.

PS - interesting analysis about the gas, but I measure in smiles per gallon.
