Do it soon and as often as you can. I try to never leave salt on my truck as I have a hose and can back it right into the shop to dry. There have been times where I rinsed the truck and the water was freezing on the sides. Just be careful not to ice yourself out of your vehicle.
Also there is a product called salt away. Available on Amazon as a kit with a mixer that mounts to the hose. Its a marine product marketed as an engine flush for boat motors running in the ocean. Its also good to spray off surfaces covered in salt spray. It doesnt simply rinse it also neutralizes the salt.
I use it on my salt trucks and spreaders a few times during the winter.
It will leave a cloudy residue but the salt will be gone.
Salt sucks no matter how hard you work at keeping it away.
