IMHO you should not be worried about the block itself, or shopping for a billet block. This super sturdy
closed deck block should be good for over 1000 WHP with a high-quality, balanced engine build.
What breaks first at high power levels are pistons, rods and bearings, not the block and cylinders. And to your point, with our existing forged rods/pistons that is almost always due to a bad tune and not excessive power. But to strengthen the motor, you just upgrade the rods/pistons.
Detonation from a bad tune is usually what cracks pistons and hammers rods until they bend or snap and/or distort bearings.
