1st gen Miata (1990-1997) values are on the upswing, so finding a good candidate for a track car is getting harder.
2nd gen (1999-2005) have parts compatibility with first gen, and can still be bought cheaply. Nice examples are starting to appreciate, though.
3rd gen (2006-2015) is a completely different car than the first two, and prices are still dropping. IMHO, this is the best choice currently for a track car, and what I would buy if I were starting a track car build now. More power, and can use more tire than the first two generations. Lots of track parts starting to come on line for these.
We're pretty invested in a 1992 that we use as an HPDE/TT car. These really are great track cars... fun to drive and cheap consumables.
