If you think about it, once the 13 colonies were established as a nation, they had no choice but to completely take over the continent from coast to coast.
Let’s say they’d have stopped at the Mississippi River. Let’s say the United States doesn’t make the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. We would still be fighting with the Indian tribes like every mid-east country has been fighting each other for 2000 years. Our govt was brilliant in that regard: it ensured cohesive, eternal future peace from coast to coast.
Imagine what goes on in Palestine and Israel today happening in America as we would know it only up to the Mississippi, and the western half of the country still all Indian. Whether people think I’m racist or not isn’t the point: we’d be at a constant, open ended war with the native Americans without manifest destiny.
Today the Indian reservations are their own nations. They pay no income tax to the United States, and have their own police and court system. If they want to tell me The Cleveland Indians and Chief Wahoo or the Washington Redskins and their mascot are so offensive they can start paying income tax and join our court system. They can share some of that wealth from their casinos if FedEx threatened to pull financial sponsorship from Washington, or Progressive Insurance from Cleveland.
Until then, they are hypocritical jerks.
