Went to the dealer and had
TSB 20-NA-055 (v1.6) completed (reflash of the ECM)... Hopefully this problem will never recur...

Because when you are going roughly 30 mph your instrument cluster shouldn't look like this (issue happened at start up but I had to get it home (about 4 miles), my daughter took this while I was driving):
Car wouldn't shift, stayed in one "default" gear which I think was 2nd or maybe 3rd, sounded weird, check engine light on and Traction Control light on... Glad to find out it was a known issue and there was a fix for it (the above TSB).
