The short story is that GM is likely sending some unknown amount of money back to the dealer so that they're still making a reasonable amount of money. I don't work for a dealer or GM so I'm not sure if that amount is the full employee discount amount or the dealer is absorbing some of it. Any dealer is of course going to tell you that they are selling at the employee price and they can't do any better but in reality that is almost certainly not the case.


I have the supplier discount and when I asked they said they would just give the employee discount since it's better. They are not built to stack in the pricing tools. Realistically your could probably get 1-2K off on top of the employee price if a dealer was motivated to sell but that's half the problem right now. With Covid inventory shortages dealers aren't really motivated to cut a huge deal to make room for the incoming units.
