In a nutshell, these sections are crimped because the exhaust is shared between the coupe and the convertible, and the latter has a cross brace in those positions for structural rigidity.
Although it may be a bit surprising, the "bashed in" segments cause zero power loss, which was proven several times by multiple tests. If you don't like the look, you can get midpipes or an entire new exhaust, but you will gain absolutely nothing in terms of power.
