Sounds like you're in the minority but I'm with you on this. To me, the point of a fun car is to drive it. I'm in the midwest and I got winter wheels/tires to use during those months. I know salt/sand is bad, but modern cars do a lot better than they did 20 years ago with this stuff.
For a while I thought a beater would be great for days when it might hail or something, but then I realized even having to pay insurance deductibles would be way cheaper than buying/insuring/maintaining a beater.
To each their own though! If I could afford it I'd totally have a Wrangler as a 3rd car.
