Additionally, for a given width, a smaller diameter tire has a smaller traction patch, so the actual gains of going to the 285 would be somewhat offset by the 35 profile compared to the 275/40.
I would like 285s but don't want the smaller dia. tire, I wish they made a 285/38/19 - I'd buy that.

I am definitely ordering the 275/40/19 's and they are VERY close o the stock diameter....
