The newer PF64 feels about like half the weight of the old one. It's designed just like the filter on my lawnmower with the little thin screen with the holes covering the thing. I definitely felt it was a budget move to make the change.
OP when you say screen are you talking about the anti-drainback valve?
The thing is I don't mess with the new PF64. I don't care if it's good enough or not, it feels like a budgeting move. Kind of like back in the day when you found out that Mobil 1 wasn't a true full synthetic after they lost the lawsuit with Castrol. It was like "damn that, if I'm going to spend for synthetic it's going to be some genuine 100% synthetic oil," so Amsoil, Redline, RP, GC, Mobil 1 0W40, etc became popular. Even though regular Mobil 1 oils are still very good, and most motors using it are very well protected a true full synthetic is better, and them doing that was a budget move, and they were lying about it. (along with most other OTC sythetics. It wasn't just Mobil 1, they were just the popular oil that got found out about) That it just not cool. That's why I don't mess with the new PF64.
I run a truck size filter. It's basically the same filter only a little longer. The filters I personally like most are Balwin. They're made in the U.S. by Clarcor who make filters for Amsoil and Hastings as well. They're well built and use quality components in them. The one I run is the Balwin B7449. I believe the PF64 equivalent from Balwin is the B7422. Both have a 20 PSI bypass valve. (BPV) The PF64 is like a 22 PSI BPV filter. You want to use one that's close to be safe. Most filters are in the 14 PSI range.
