I fully understand and totally agree that running the engine harder than "street driving" warrants the dexos2 oil. So, track use and mods will benefit.
My point was that there isn't any basis for GM to tell us to run dexos2, only be willing to cover the costs of dexos1 in the included service visits, and also tell us that dexos1 is fine for street use all at the same time.
My guess is that the charge came from the lawyers when someone tracked their car with dexos1 and made a stink when something broke.
