Having a surge reservoir at a high point in the system allows it to purge air in normal operation, and allows checking/filling the system without special equipment. It should have been designed that way from the factory.

Just installed - no issues (used small needle nose pliers instead of dental pick to remove the purple clip). Consider this another "must do" reliability mod with the Elite oil catch can. Getting an air pocket in the IC coolant circuit could lead to spike in charge temps and possible detonation
