The test mule is a 2018 Camaro 2SS 1LE. Basic modifications are a flex fuel sensor, Roto-Fab dry CAI intake, Soler Performance ported 95 MM throttle body, New Era Performance cat delete pipes and a tune. The intake manifolds tested are an OEM intake manifold ported by Pray Performance and an MSD LT1 Airforce intake manifold, also ported by Pray Performance. The car was tuned at Church Automotive(
http://churchautotesting.com/ ) with all of the mods listed + the ported OEM intake manifold. On April 23 of this year we took the car to Superior Automotive's Dynojet to see where the car was with the tune-it made 464 HP and 468 torque.
We installed the Pray Ported MSD intake manifold in early June. We took the car to Natural Aspirations(
http://www.naturalaspirations.com/ )and dialed in the air/fuel for the new intake manifold. Today we returned to Superior Automotive to compare the results. As you can see by the graph, the Pray Ported OEM intake manifold is slightly better below 5,000 RPM, with a significant advantage right at 4,000 RPM. Above 5,000 RPM the MSD is better, posting a gain in peak HP of about 15 HP, but a whopping 33 HP gain at 6,500 RPM. For reference, we baselined this car bone stock on 91 octane pump gas July 31, 2019 at Superior and it made 403 HP and 404 torque. Is it worth $1500 for 15 peak HP? You decide.
Pray did the same test a couple of years back and the results are comparable :
