What happened to the DSSVs that it was decided there was a failure?
The Gen5 Z/28 DSSVs and the ZL1 1LE DSSVs both have a sintered brass vent on their body. This is needed because they are an insert type of damper. The insert will displace air as they move. Inside the damper, there are bushings that the insert rides on, Multimatic uses a clear to amber grease at these bushings. This grease will sometimes find its way to the brass vent. Some have complained that this points to a failure. This is normal. You can remove the vent and clean it with Brakleen and reinstall. I run the Z/28 DSSVs on my Gen5 SS 1LE. I have had the fronts apart to see how they work, and looking at GM's published literature on the ZLE DSSvs, they are similar in design.
