According to the Mobil 1 engineers and chemists, LSPI which is different than standard PI/knock/detonation, occurs at low speed conditions under high load with DI engines, and LSPI is pre-ignition of the blow-by oil vapor itself and not the fuel, so higher octane fuel doesn't fix it. It's the chemistry of this Dexos 2 oil vapor (like the high octane chemistry of race gas), that resists ignition under high pressure, making it more effective for LSPI than standard oils.
It may not be the only cure for LSPI, but according to their data it helps prevent this engine damaging phenomenon. The more help the better IMO.
