x2. Just recently a friend lost a rebuilt engine (a classic Pontiac) with under 500 miles. He didn't drive it much other than short trips. After about a year he started having issues which he attributed to the carb. He started tinkering with it, so there was constant starting and then shutting it down. Then one day, it developed a serious miss, then serious noises, and then the engine stopped completely. It turns out the valves were caked with carbon and became sticky, one eventually got stuck, which bent a pushrod, and that cascaded. It wasn't pretty.
