You can get the 3M double sided tape and reinstall it properly. It shouldn't look that thick in the end.

Having swapped out a couple badges, I don't think they use "traditional" double sided tape, their black gasket-like adhesive material feels more like butyl such as this one:

If someone only wants a thinner adhesive, though, 3M does have several VHB tapes that are 0.9-1.1mm thick. Note that the ones I've used were all dark gray and not pitch black.
