Unfortunately, shite happens. Glad to hear that GM took care of you and the problem quickly.
FWIW, we had an oil pump completely crap the bed with less than 3K miles on a Tahoe. Another dealership (not where we bought it) fixed everything and we haven't had an issue with anything else and it currently has 98K miles on it.
Even good parts break from time to time.
