I generally don't keep cars past the original warranty period, but I did purchase extended warranties for two of the more than 60 cars I've owned - one for my C6, which was a "keep forever, low-mileage" car and one for my son's drive-to-school car, which is now 11 years old. The extended warranties were the OEM bumper-to-bumper type, not the "drivetrain only" third-party insurance policies with lots of restrictions and high deductibles.

Both warranties were around $800, which is small money if you need to replace anything connected to a computer in your car. (Even the HVAC control unit for a C6 is $1200...) If you plan on keeping a car a long time, consider the large one-time cost for the extended warranty now against the big bill you'll be avoiding in several years; otherwise, I'd say forget it.

BTW, Fichtner is the best - less than half what the local dealer wanted.
