I've always had a fondness for more unusual cars, especially wagons. My 2004 Mazda 6 wagon, although still looking new inside and out, was starting to leak oil at 162K miles and I had the itch for something new. I always wanted a convertible and we did have a VW Beetle convertible that my wife traded in for her CRV, but it was bright yellow and that was NOT the color I wanted to drive in, especially that car. It was time for a mid-life crisis car for sure.
I started looking at what other convertibles were out there and I sort of settled on the FIAT 124 Spider/Mazda Miata twins - until I sat in one. Talk about a potential death-trap! Way too low and cramped for a daily driver. Thought about the Buick Cascada but didn't get very good reviews. Although I would have loved a C or E-Class convertible, way too much money. Moved on to the Camaro and Mustang since they did have back seats (ha-ha).
At the time I was starting to look for something new in September, 2017, my wife's CRV loan was done and I broke my left foot building my daughter's deck, so I got that all-important sympathy vote from my wife for a new car.
I was always more of a Chevy guy than a Ford guy (previously owned a Cavalier Type 10 and a Celebrity Eurosport wagon), so I did a build-your-own on the Chevy site and the EXACT car I was looking for was sitting at my local dealer as a '17 leftover. And it was almost $10K off sticker. It was just meant to be...
