I've got the Cordes tank in mine. It does solve the issue of being able to purge the system of air without having to use a special or makeshift tool.
You do have to remove the rain diverter but that can be easily modified to allow room for the tank- I've marked mine but haven't cut it as I don't drive in the rain and I use waterless wash stuff. You only need to remove a corner of the rain diverter, it's not much.
As for the capacity providing any benefit - think it would be difficult to either measure or prove/disprove. Logic would dictate that it provides a little benefit (may take a little longer to heat soak) but, again, difficult to prove.
I decided to go this route because my catch can mounts in the same location that the plastic version would and the Cordes tank frankly looks better, IMHO.
