Correct. The GT500 is not definitively faster. It beat the C8 Z51 around VIR by ~1 second. Even if they ran them 10 times and they tied 10 times, I simply find it to be quite impressive that a 2+2 (albeit the 760hp Shelby) equaled the C8's time.
Theoretically and historically, a 2+2 should not be able to hang with a 2-seater sports car on a road course (of similar performance proportions). Both GM and Ford have morphed their 2+2 cars into sports cars that can hang with track beasts costing 2-3 times as much. Last year, the ZL1 1LE was pitted against a 911 GT3 RS at VIR and beat it by 2 seconds.
These cars are no more just a straight line, one trick pony.
