Denying the power advantage of a motor that has a flat torque curve starting from 0 rpm is foolishness.
My main problem is not with the electric motor (that, by the way, is older than the gasoline engine), it's the bait-and-switch with them that is aimed at removing nearly all degrees of freedom from the driving experience in the name of safety and efficiency, even political correctness. Other, lesser or at least not as relevant issues associated with electric cars, such as the lack of sound and gears, are basically just a paradigm shift that we need to acknowledge.
I will probably switch to uber/lyft or the next ridesharing service before paying money for an autonomous electric appliance that I have little to no control over, fast as they may be.
