I will assume this is a "track" and not on the open road.
Just a few things to consider:
1. The mustang is designed to turn close to 10,000 rpm and make power up top...
(Last I checked, I don't really follow them all that much)
So the roll run he is already well into the power band of the motor.
2. What is top speed, or top distance.
His auto can shift faster - just the way it is now days.
He has a much tighter gear ratio and applying more torque to get speed up.
3. Are your "nannies" turned off?
4. Are you in "track" mode?
5. How are you starting?
Is it by a marker or horn honk, etc...
Many differences in "timing" on starts.
While I'm not suggesting a "road run" I will pose this.
With him and you agree to do this run. Let him start first and when the back bumper passes the front of your car, then you go. See if you can overtake any part of his car up to finish mark.
Repeat and have him do the same. You start and see if he can overtake you.
This will at least allow each to focus on the road in front instead of sides until the finish mark.
6. Start at 0 mph
Lastly, enjoy your car and forget this "who is faster" issue. It never ends well for anyone involved: Crash, cops, insurance, etc...
Remember these cars have data recorders and that is the first thing insurance checks now days....lets see the last 8 seconds you went from 50mph to 140mph, slammed on your breaks and crashed... claimed a deer jumped into the road, good luck with that.
Go to an actual race track, drag strip and claim your bragging rights with a true time slip instead of road warrior hearsay.
