Entirely possible. I guess GM just nailed the Alpha platform from the get go, even if it is that old.
To be fair to Ford, until they moved to IRS on the Mustang, they were not even in the game for handling. They are just lagging behind because this is a new ball game for them and they are still in learning mode.
I remember reading an article when they first switched over to IRS and in the article they said Ford had to re-design the entire front-end of the Mustang because it wasn't able to keep up with the more advanced rear-end.
So, they have been playing catch up since then and just are not there yet.
