So I'm reading the instructions on how to replace rear pads. Because we have the electric parking brake as part of the caliper, the instructions call out to attach a scan tool and issue "Rear Brake Caliper Piston Retract". And after the job is done the scan tool is used to "Calibrate the park brake".

Is this really needed? What if I don't do it?

BTW I'm planning to replace pads and rotors.
