I always coat my headers and also wrap near. On my cars with coated headers, within a short time, you could touch the headers after running...yes, still hot, but, WAY lower temp and radiant heat off them. Might have saved my Firebird years ago from burning up when I kicked rods out at almost 150mph and oil got on them even with an engine diaper.
Surprised so few guys get headers high temp coated...not saying you can lay plastic loomed wiring against coated headers, just saying it greatly lowers the outside temp of the piping.

I have my headers coated, not wrapped though think the issue was the harness was laying on the headers under a full track day running hot.
