There has actually been 3 generations of the LT1 engine.

The 1970 LT-1 5.7/350 CID that was one of the better HP engines for the Camaro for those years. This was back when GM still offered a different corporate engine for each brand.

Then the 1992-1996 LT1 5.7/350 CID that was used in the 4th gen F-Body cars. While it was a good upgrade from the L98 TPI engine as it had more power and a better RPM range due to the shorter runner setup, it was a failure because of the optispark system that had engine coolant flowing thru it. Those optispark's died all the time.

Then there is the new LT1 we have now, 6.2/376 CID and a clean sheet design. Only 2 parts carried over from the LS series engine into the LT series engine and those 2 parts are nothing major, I think it was a bolt and a bearing for the crank.
