Diagnosed it by careful putting one end of a long wooden dowel on the pulley bolt and the other end up to my ear. You could hear and feel the bearing buzzing through the dowel. A long screwdriver will also work. Best diagnostic tool is an engine stethoscope, if you've got access to one.
