Yes it will do something, like add some horsepower, but you will want tuning to get the best out of it in my opinion. Not just ECM tuning, but TCM too, if your car has an A8. My stock TCM was only reaching about 5800 or 5900 rpm in 1st gear with drag radials. When it was doing that, I wasn't really noticing a gain from the MSD on the dragstrip at first (still had 87 tb then and stock airbox), likely because it was not enough rpm to make proper use of the manifold's characteristics. Now that HPT can unlock 2017+ TCMs, with some tuning, it is doing something for sure. My bolt-on SS now has a non-ported 95 tb on the non-ported MSD. Using those parts, along with a CAI, E85 tune, drag pack, and a little weight reduction, it ran 10.88 on the dragstrip. Car has a completely stock exhaust system, stock torque converter, stock rear gears, no underdrive pulley, no carbon driveshaft, and no lightweight drag brakes, just to let you know the mod level.

If you're not into drag racing, the short version of my point is, the engine needs to be run in the proper rpm range where the parts work their best if you want to get what they have to offer.
